Let’s talk about working out! The weather’s improving so why not work out while your kids play?
With spring in full swing and beautiful weather cropping up around the country, it’s becoming easier to get outside and be active. Why not take the kids with you to the playground? They’ll have fun and YOU can get in a little extra activity.
The options for a playground workout are as varied as playgrounds themselves:
Bench Jumps: work on leg and glute strength with bench jumps while also getting in some cardio. Other ideas for using playground benches include pushups holding on to the backrest, step-ups or chair squats. You can even do tricep dips from the bench seat!
Monkey Bar Chin-ups: take your turn on the monkey bars by doing some chin-ups or pull-ups. Or just join the kids and see if you can make it across all the monkey bars! It’s a great upper body workout.
Swing Planks: use the seat of a swing to do a plank or ab roll-out. The unsteadiness of the swing works even the smallest muscles. You can also hold on to the swing chains to steady yourself while you do pistol squats.
Open Space: don’t forget about the simplicity of open space. Do some sprints, chase your kids, kick around a soccer ball. It all adds up!
Look online for even more ideas for playground workouts. Whether you want to concentrate on cardio or strength training, the playground is a fun way to fit in some activity during the warmer months. As an added bonus, your kids can be active, too!
Try it if: you want to involve the family in your workouts; your kids need to burn off energy; you need to fit in some activity wherever you can.
